Warm, personal and often funny, this easy-reading book will surely bring many fond memories to anybody who worked for Saudi Aramco. Rick does a good job of mixing his personal, candid memories of an American kid growing up in Dhahran with insight into the Saudi culture. With family snapshots and historical photos, this story of a unique cultural experience is highly recommended.
The authors descriptive style gave me a sense of what the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was when he was a child. Because I had no previous connection to Saudi Arabia, I was not sure that I would be interested in the book but once I started reading it I could not put it down. I love the authors writing style and the memoir format that kept my interest through the whole book.

I have long awaited this book from Rick and it did not disappoint. I often found myself smiling as I read his vivid descriptions of his memories, long past, wishing I too had been there then. Now I wish he would write a book about his adult years in the Kingdom.
Written with humor, wit and hindsight, the book is a wonderful look into a rather unique childhood. The photos were priceless and the prose made me laugh out loud. Great read.

I start by saying that like the author, I grew up in Saudi Arabia, in two of the Aramco camps. So we have that in common. I had some very different experiences, but I suspect that is because I am a woman and growing up in Saudi Arabia as a girl was a little different than some of the experiences the author relates. But the key things, the innocence, the freedom, the amazing travel - all those were common to all of us who shared this amazing childhood.This author managed to bring my childhood back, and the absolute sense of wonder that children experience with every new experience that comes into their lives. I suspect that this book would appeal to people everywhere because of that, but it was especially touching for me because of the unique surroundings that he describes so well.On top of all of that, the author writes well, brings people and events to life and keeps the book fun by introducing so many different stories. I highly recommend this book - for the rest of the Aramco Brat world, and for anyone who wants a little bit of their innocent, fun childhood back.
