DO NOT ORDER THIS SET-THE PRINTING IS A MESS!! This set of books is atrocious! The print is dark on one page, light on another. There are pages where the print is missing portions of sentences which makes it impossible to read. There are pages where the pring is smeared and/or doubled. Some of the pages are ripped: some of the writing is so close to the middle of the book that to read, you have to almost tear the binding. I called Amazona dn they promptly sent another set, but same issue with that set too. VERY FRUSTRATING!!DIANA GABALDON....If you read this you need to stop this publishing company from ruining your stories in print!!

I rated this 5 stars because of how much I absolutely LOVED the first book. The characters are so well developed it’s hard to think of them as characters and not real people. The story is truly mind blowing, and the attention to detail about the history of the time is incredible. Truly a stunning piece of work in all aspects. Not to mention I’m completely head over heels for Jamie Fraser. *swoon* No better male hero has ever existed. That being said, I unfortunately have to report that the series continually gets worse as you go on. I still greatly enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd for the most part, although I wasn’t as on board with where the story was going and it seemed like Diana kept introducing more and more wild plot lines with no explanations. Then the 4th book. Oh where to begin. What an utter disappointment. The characters I love so much have started to become a shell of what they were in the first book. New characters are mediocre at best, and hateful at their worst. Not hateful because they’re good villains, no they’re hateful because they’re so pathetically constructed and underwhelmingly developed. And the amount of detail about things that don’t matter is so hard to get through. You could probably eliminate a good 300 pages of just description and the story would be exactly the same. Speaking of the actual story, this amazing action/adventure/romance/fantasy series that I have come to know and love felt much more like a cheesy soap opera than anything in the 4th book. Yikes.I’m currently on the 5th book, The Fiery Cross, and I’m only a few chapters in and already I’m bored and disappointed. Let’s hope it turns around.....But yeah. I still recommend it because the first is so amazing it’s worth it, but beware...you’re signing up for heartbreak.

This is a great series. There are now eight major (huge!) novels in the series with several spin-off novels and novellas dealing with minor characters and themes. The historical details are extremely well researched which is very satisfying, since the action ranges from the 20th century to the 18th century in Scotland, America, and France. If you've been living in a cave the last decade or so, the series is about a WWII English nurse, Claire Randall, who is touring Scotland with her husband just after the war and is inexplicably pulled back in time 202 years when she passes through an ancient ring of stones. She finds herself caught up with people and events just prior to the 1745 Highlander rebellion and is forced to marry a young Scots outlaw. As the series continues, she becomes aware of hidden motives and conspiracies involving not only the family and political events she is thrust into, but also the mysterious ability to time travel through ancient megaliths. Diana Gabaldon seems to have popularized, if not invented the "time travel romance" genre, but her books are about so much more. If you'rre looking for a little light reading, these are a little more involved. Be sure to check out the TV series on STARZ and DVD based on the novels if you want to see what you'll be jumping into!

I absolutely adore the Outlander series! The box set was very affordable and conveniently sized.I will admit, I got addicted on the series backwards-- I had never heard of it until I saw the TV Series, and the books are absolutely 10x better. In a way, I love that that the TV version gave a visual aid, so now I can picture the handsome Jamie and adorable Claire even better. It really pulls you into the book even better, but just the craft writing of Diana Gabaldon is enough to draw you in; she paints a picture in your head.It had been a very long time that I found myself jaw-dropped as I read. The words eventually drift into your mind and you find yourself practically standing there beside Claire and Jamie, imagining the blissfulness of the beautiful Scotland paradise they live in. I love all the extra detail that was crafted into the stories that skipped the TV series, and I find myself chiding about it out loud when I read about something I had no further idea about... like the wedding details! Books like these make me happy for slow times at my job!

What a great set of books!! Not only was it a good deal price wise, but I am so hooked!!! I have ordered the next 4 books in the series and am anxiously awaiting their arrival. I was unaware these even existed (thanks friends and family who've read them and didn't tell me) and I got hooked on the Starz series Outlander. Well, once you see how good the show is you KNOW the books have got to be so much better...AND THEY ARE! You will not be disappointed, your only problem will be putting them down and trying to get on with your day, or cooking dinner, or even going to sleep! I turn to my clock and groan because it's late and I tell myself "just til the next break" and then I bargain some more for a few more pages...You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be drawn in for certain!!!
