Last night I finally received Samantha Dion Baker's "Draw Your Day" and the "Draw Your Day Sketchbook." After months of anticipation, I could not be more pleased! Not only is Samantha an amazing illustrator, but this girl can write!!! "Draw Your Day" is jam-packed with inspiration. Samantha breaks down her sketch journal process to enable the reader to find their own process to capture their days. Materials, techniques and ideas are all explored in detail, all with accompanying examples of Samantha's own beautiful pages! The "Draw Your Day Sketchbook" is a wonderful companion piece - allowing the reader to begin sketching their own days with inspiring prompts provided! If you have any thoughts of journaling and don't know where to begin, buy this book today!
This sketchbook is full of great prompts in a fun font. They feel different and more varied than your typical prompts. They are written out small and in the corner so as to leave maximum page space for your own doodles, and each includes an inspiring little drawing by the author to inspire you. The paper is thick, feels wonderful, and looks like it will be great for a variety of mediums. It also has a ribbon bookmark to save your place. Can't wait to sit with a cup of coffee and flip through this some more until I decide which prompt to tackle first.
Excellent companion piece to Draw Your Day! Beautifully done, filled with great drawing prompts to help start an enriching practice. Samantha is an amazing talent, and her instruction is unpretentious and inspiring.
The size of this sketchbook is perfect 7x8. Good quality paper with illustrations and prompts. My only peeve is the longer prompts written at the top of the page - the font is too large. It takes away from my sketch. Luckily there are not that many. I will probably use washi tape or some collage to cover it. I am fine with the prompts at the bottom of the page. Otherwise I am happy and this book will accompany me wherever I go until I have filled it with sketches!
The prompts are inspiring and easy to follow, and they’re placed on the pages in a subtle and unique way. The quality of the paper is great for multiple mediums as well.
Great size, nice paper and sprinkled with lovely illustrations and thoughtful prompts.
Filled with pages illustrated with small drawings of the authors which helps make the white pages seem a bit more approachable for those who suffer from fear of the blank page. There are also prompts on some of the pages – “draw a piece of fruit, take a bit of the fruit and draw it againâ€, “what does your favorite storefront in your neighborhood look like?†, “what have you eaten today?†and “draw your art supplies†to name a few. I am going to enjoy filling the pages of this 8″ x 7″ watercolor sketchbook with my own drawings.
Just received this book but I've read through the entire book. I will definitely be re-reading and practicing in the daily sketch book that I also purchased. Very easy reading but good reference book on sketching, drawing. This book gives practical advice on how to practice and suggestions on what to draw. This book is inspiring and I hope to become a better artist with practice on everyday, simple things. I think anyone who is interested in bettering their drawing skills could benefit from her suggestions. Thank you. Books arrived very quickly and in great condition!
